Two things can leave your device on this site: a cookieless record that a page was viewed, and a message if you choose to send one. Your salary is not one of them.
Where is the calculation done?
In your browser. The tax tables are part of the page, so the salary and deductions you type are never sent anywhere to be worked out. They live in the address bar instead, which is what makes a result shareable — and it means sharing the link is your decision, because the numbers travel with it.
What is measured about a visit?
Visits are counted with Plausible, Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. All three are cookieless, none of them profiles you, and the query string is stripped before any address is recorded — so the salary that lives in the address bar never reaches them.
What happens to a message you send?
A message sent through the contact page is stored in a private repository on GitHub, a service operated in the United States, where the people maintaining this tool work through it. The text you write and the email address you supply are both stored there, and neither is published. Messages are kept for as long as that repository exists. If you would rather not use the form, write to the address on the imprint page instead.
What does an account store?
An account is optional and stores three things: the address you signed up with, the name you gave, and the language you signed up in — so our emails arrive in it. Nothing you type into the calculator is stored with your account. Deleting the account on the account page removes all of it immediately.
Where are saved calculations kept?
Saved calculations are kept on our server, against your account, and saving requires an account for that reason. What is stored is the name you chose and the inputs you saved, and nothing else; deleting one, or deleting the account, removes it immediately. Separately, the last ten calculations this browser worked out are held in the browser’s own storage as a convenience — they are never sent anywhere, they are not tied to an account, and the button above that list clears it.
What is stored on your device?
A service worker caches the pages you have opened so the calculator keeps working without a connection, and your light or dark preference is remembered locally. Both stay on the device and are cleared with the site's data in your browser settings.
